Get to know C6 Farms

We’re Jim & Tammy Crandall, C1 & C2.  We have 4 grown kids: Mallory, Jake, Callie, & Cade.  They are C3, C4, C5, & C6.  Mallory and husband Neth live in Connecticut and have a 4 year old son, James, and a 2 year old son, Freddy. Jake and wife Maddie live in Texas and have a 5 year old son, Calvin, a 3 year old son, Everett, and a 1 yr old son, Archie.  Our daughter Callie graduated from Baylor and works in Texas as an Interior Designer for an architecture firm. Our son Cade recently graduated from the Colorado School of Mines and is starting a new career as a Computer Scientist in Maryland.

In 2006, we purchased our 256 acre farm and began a cow/calf operation selling calves to the Sale Barn. We registered our C6 brand the same year with the State of Louisiana and began branding our cattle with our new “C6” brand on their left hip. We began grass finishing beef for family & friends in 2010. In the fall of 2022, we transitioned from grass to a grain finished beef operation. The overall quality of the beef & customer response has been overwhelmingly positive.

In September of 2023, always trying to provide a better product, we replaced our Angus bulls with Wagyu bulls. At the same time, we began grain finishing some 50/50 Texas Wagyu cattle raised by one of our local friends alongside our Angus sired cattle allowing us to provide both grain finished Angus and Wagyu beef for our customers to choose from.

Tammy & I have been in Louisiana since 1991.  We were both raised in Texas but neither of us grew up around cattle or big acreage.  We obtained our farm & ranch education mainly by making a lot of mistakes.  In 2018, Jim attended a series of classes and completed the work required for his Master Cattlemen’s Certification from the LSU AgCenter.

When the Covid-19 outbreak started in the spring of 2020, we decided to begin marketing our grass fed beef beyond just family & friends and to add pasture raised broilers, pasture raised egg layers, and Kathadin sheep to our operation.  The layers began laying in November 2020 and our first crop of lambs was born on pasture in early January 2021. Since then, we have added Forest Raised Pork and Honey Bees to the farm.

Let thy food be thy medicine…….We very much care about the food that we eat and provide for others. We strive to provide nutrient dense whole food products, which runs counter to the standard American Diet. We also care deeply about the sustainability of our farm, soil health, and the advance of regenerative agriculture. We are striving to be good stewards of the land and plan to leave our farm to our children & grandchildren in much better shape than we found it.
